Honey can be eaten with cheesebreadcrackers, drizzled over yoghurt, porridge or fruit. It can be used to sweeten homemade salad dressings, granolahot drinks, chutneys or stews. Honey is a wonderful alternative sweetener but with honey this good, you may want to just enjoy it simply on toast or a fresh slice of bread! That way you can appreciate the honey for its sweet flavour and wonderful aroma! This gluten-free bread is the perfect recipe to make that happen!

Creating gluten-free bread is a challenge in itself (due to the lack of gluten which gives regular bread it’s a structure) We wanted to challenge ourselves even more with this recipe and include a lot of hemp flour because of the nutrients it can add to the bread. Hemp flour is high in protein (20%) and fibre (47%) as well as being a good source of omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin D and E.

Recipe: Gluten Free Bread


1/2 cup buckwheat flour
1/2 cup hemp flour
3/4 cup gram/chickpea flour
1/4 cup arrowroot (or tapioca flour/potato starch)
5 tsp gluten-free baking powder
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
320ml non-dairy milk
large handful of seeds of choice – optional
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp salt


Preheat oven to 200º C
Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Spoon into a lined loaf tin and bake for approximately 45 mins until a skewer comes away clean.
Check halfway through and loosely cover with tinfoil if the top of the bread is browning too quickly.
