The roasted and salted nuts give extra depth of flavour than regular walnuts, and the sweetness of the dates, pairs well with the saltiness of the nuts. You can also use regular nuts and roast them for a few minutes yourself to cut out or reduce the salt.
Try spreading this sweet and salty nut butter on crackers, sandwich between cookies, stir through ice cream, blitz into a milkshake… or eat straight from the spoon!
We used walnuts in this original recipe, but highly recommend trying our roasted and salted pecan, almond or hazelnuts.
Recipe: Sweet and Salty Date and Nut Butter
Make 1 large (or two small) jars
Ingredients:
- 2 cups heaped roasted and salted pecans/almonds/hazelnuts
- a heaped half cup soft dates
- 1 tbs coconut oil – melted (helps the blending process)
Method:
Blend all the ingredients together in a high powered blender until smooth and easily spreadable. If you’d like a chunky mix, reserve half a cup of the nuts and add in at the very end once the rest of the mix is smooth, to blend into the mix to reach your prefered texture.
The date and nut butter will store in a jar in a cool dark place for a few weeks. It can be refrigerated for longer but will harder to scoop out of the jar to serve.
