Organic Arrowroot Powder is an easily digested starch extracted from the roots of the arrowroot plant, Maranta Arundinacea. It is an excellent natural thickener for stews, sauces, gravies, desserts and baked goods. Arrowroot is often used to replace Gelatin in cold set desserts or homemade jelly sweets or desserts.  It can be used instead of wheat flour as a gluten free alternative for thickening sauces and stews.

Arrowroot has a fairly neutral flavour and gives sauces a wonderful glossy look, which is why people choose to use it instead of cornflour which can have a slightly unpleasant flavour unless cooked thoroughly and it can give the sauce a cloudy look.  If you’re following a vegan, gluten free or paleo lifestyle this is a very useful ingredient to have in your cupboard!

Suggested use:

Use Arrowroot instead of Cornstarch in your cooking. Thicken stews soups, sauces with arrowroot. Thicken cold set desserts and jellies with it or use it in paleo and gluten free baking. To avoid getting lumps in when adding it to liquids, like gravies, mix the powder with a little water first and then add that wet paste to the liquid in the dish/sauce you’re cooking.
