This is our organic unrefined Ecuadorian red palm oil with a mild flavour and scent.  To achieve the mild flavour the organic palm fruits are first gently steamed to release the oil from the fruit and then expeller-pressed to fully extract the oil.  A cold-filtering process is then used to maximise the beneficial nutritional qualities of the resulting oil.

Note this is not to be confused with processed palm kernel oils (which is mass produced and whose cultivation often results in the deforestation of the valuable rainforest).  Grown on small family farms in Ecuador this is from sustainable organic plantations.

High in oleic acid, vitamin A and E, unrefined red palm, just like coconut oil, is gaining a reputation as a versatile, healthy oil and is fast becoming as popular as coconut oil.

Note: this Palm oil is not from the huge monocultures in South East Asia or Africa but from organic plantations and sustainable farms in Ecuador.  It is gently gained from the fully ripened flesh of the oil palm. This preserves valuable ingredients and the typical flavour particularly well. Red palm oil is heat stable and is great in baked goods and African/Asian dishes.

Please note: Red palm oil naturally forms crystals from the naturally occurring sugars which can be seen in the jar. However this crystallisation disappears on heating of the oil.

Suggested uses:

Red palm oil is ideal for roasting (it makes the most amazing roast potatoes!), shortening, adding to soups and sauces or for simply spreading.
