Our organic unrefined Shea Butter, traditional hand crafted by local women’s co-operatives in Ghana.

Our Organic Shea is called “Hippo Shea” as it comes from the Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary, a hippo conservation area in the Upper West Region of Ghana. This initiative to organically harvest Sheanuts is in collaboration with the Calgary Zoo (CZ), the Nature Conservation Research Centre (NCRC) and the Sanctuary Management Board (SMB) of the Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary (WCHS). The success of the initiative relies on education, eco-tourism and increased benefits reaching communities in the area, who in turn learn to better understand and respect biodiversity conservation and to protect the last remaining natural population of hippos on the Ghanaian stretch of the Black Volta River.

Our new Edible Beauty line is turning beauty on it’s head.  We’re simplifying beauty by offering the very best, certified organic, edible, cold pressed oils for all the nutritional goodness your body needs, both inside and out, at sensible, affordable prices.

At the RealFoodSource we believe skin, nail and haircare doesn’t have to consist of processed, preserved, unnatural and expensive products. Nor do we believe beauty products need to be a big cocktail of complicated ingredients. A few simple, high quality products to cleanse, nourish and moisture can be all that is needed. However, the products you do use should be the very best quality in their most pure, unrefined state.

Why Edible and Cold Pressed?

Our food grade oils are collected on a first cold press of the nut, seed or fruit and usually in much better hygienic conditions than cosmetic grade oils. Cosmetic grade oils are often the cheap leftovers from later presses once the valuable edible grade oils have been collected. Cosmetic grades of oil are often extracted by other methods such as using distilling or solvents which remove the full goodness in the oil.  Edible grade means our oils have the highest levels of vitamins, minerals and fatty acids for your whole body.  Our oils are 100% what they say they are so if you try our awesome Moroccan argan oil it smells and looks like pressed argan nut oil but that’s exactly why it’s got the very high levels of vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids. It’s not been refined, deodorised, or bleached out.

Why Certified Organic to Food Standards?

We believe many organic claims on cosmetic products to be quite dubious. There is no agreed EU organic cosmetic standards as there is for food and while many local bodies such as the Soil Association have created their own standard for cosmetics on best endeavours it is not the same as strict EU organic food standards.   By being certified food grade our oils are certified to strict EU organic standards.

Why the Excellent Price?

Beauty doesn’t need to be expensive. Marketing budgets, third party distributors and fancy packaging are what make it pricey.  We are led to believe with beauty products that price drives quality. However, we are not driven by profit and we don’t add in expensive marketing to our price or unnecessary packaging costs, our oils come in a basic recyclable sunlight protective dropper bottle, jar or tub.  This means we can make our Edible Beauty products available at an exceptional price for the quality of the oil.

Don’t forget we’ve also got loads more food products in our range that can fill your beauty routine too.  From cocoa butter balms to apple cider hair rinses, to masks created from our oats and green tea there’s so many ways you can simplify beauty and get the best for your whole body inside and out.  We hope you love our simple approach to edible beauty and love our products as much as we do!
