Black peppercorns are the fruit of unripened peppercorns. Black pepper works best as a flavour enhancer in meat and vegetable dishes but it can also become the main ingredient of a dish with its fiery, aromatic flavour. Black pepper also has a high nutritional profile and is often used with our turmeric in meals to help release the curcumin.

Whole black peppercorns can be added to dishes whole or ground down in a grinder or pestle and mortar. They’re great in sauces, soups, homemade sausages, marinades, as a rub for meat or even adding a fiery kick to desserts. If you add them whole to sauces or soups many people prefer to remove the peppercorns before serving.
If you enjoy making your own golden milk (or turmeric milk) try adding a touch of black pepper at the end to help release the curcumin from the turmeric.
